The Mornington Shire Council, aling with most other Greater Melbourne Councils, has adopted the ‘Irban Forest Strategy’. This aims to increase the tree canopy cover on private land and community spaces, inlcusing streets. The anticipated benefits are:
- slowing down climate change through carbon sequestration and local tempertaure reduction
- reducing local emperatures on warm and hot days
- increasing biodiversity
- improving the phsyical and mental health of residents.
